Let’s be honest - star ratings are wildly subjective. A five-star, life-changing masterpiece for one reader can be a one-star personal attack for another. That’s just the nature of books (and human opinions).

For consistency, all of our star ratings are pulled directly from Amazon. We’ve chosen Amazon over Goodreads for a few reasons:

  • It has a much larger pool of reviewers
  • It reflects a broader range of reading tastes
  • It gives a more balanced snapshot of how a book is received overall

That said - and this is important
- we don’t actually think star ratings matter all that much.

We include them as a reference point only. When it comes to choosing your next book, we place far more weight on tropes, themes, and a direct quote than a number ever could. Chemistry can’t be quantified, and neither can a reading experience.

Take the stars with a pinch of salt. We insist.

Spice

Spice is personal. What feels scandalous to one reader is a casual Tuesday night for another. So rather than rawdogging it, we’ve built a system that actually explains what you’re getting into

Our spice ratings are based on:
♦ How explicit the scenes are
♦ How often they appear
♦ Whether the spice is a side dish or the main event

We don’t judge. We simply categorise so you won't get unintentionally overheated.

    Sweet, closed-door romance or fade-to-black scenes.

    Minimal physical intimacy, with more focus on emotional connections.

    Hallmark Vibes

  • 🌶️🌶️Sizzling Tension

    Lighter steamy scenes with some descriptive intimacy but nothing too explicit.

    A mix of emotional and physical connection, with limited on-page detail.

  • 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Slowburn Flame

    More detailed steamy scenes with explicit content, but balanced with plot and character development.

    A lot of tension; focus on passion and connection.

    Little to no kinks

  • 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Blazing Passion

    High heat with multiple, explicit detailed spicy scenes woven into the story.

    The spice is a key feature of the book.

    A few kinks & trigger warnings

  • 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Full Smut Bonfire

    Extremely explicit content, often with minimal plot or entirely smut-driven.

    Open door scenes with heavy and/or dark themes, kinks and trigger warnings.
